Senator Myles Venne School Public Library Celebrates - Aboriginal Storytelling Month

Another successful Aboriginal Storytelling event was held at the Senator Myles Venne School mini gym on Thursday February 28th. We started at 11:30 with a Elders Dinner and continued with entertainment and storytelling sessions at 1 pm. Elder Henry Roberts started off by explaining why storytelling is so important and that it should be past on from one generation to another. He also mentioned that stories were told not only to entertain, but to teach lessons, give warnings, and keep history alive. Welcome remarks were given by Councilor Hilary Cook on behalf of LLRIB. He also shared what storytelling meant to him and why it is so important. Other elders that shared stories were, Bella Sanderson, Becky McKenzie, Myles Charles, Eleanor Hegland and Dolores Sand. It was a fun filled afternoon of stories and entertainment. The entertainment consisted of the SMVS Cree Choir, Jude Ratt and Dolores Sand. We would like to thank the following departments for their donations for door prizes ; LRIB Admin., Keethanow Bingo, Gift of Language project, SMVS Library and Betsy Dorion for donating two beautifully beaded dream catchers. All in all it was another successful event we had about 60 people including students participating.
