Susan Cook

Email

Tānisi, Hello and welcome, my name is Susan Cook. I currently live in and work from Stanley Mission, Sask. and commute to La Ronge on a daily basis. I am a fluent Cree speaker. I am very active in my traditional cultural lifestyle and I am also a licensed trapper. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Indigenous Studies from the First Nations University of Canada, which I completed in 2007. After my convocation I worked at the Rhoda Hardlotte Memorial Keethanow High School as a tutor for the 2007 – 2008 school year. I started my job with the Gift of Language and Culture Project in December 2008.

My job title within the project is Audio and Visual Technician. I capture video and still images of traditional Indigenous activities and lifestyles. I do video editing and produce video and/or audio teaching resources and instructional videos based on Northern Saskatchewan Indigenous Cultural activities and Languages. I also document interviews with elders and other people. The biggest and most important aspect of my job is that I am instrumental in promoting, preserving and revitalizing traditional cultures, teachings and languages by capturing and producing video, still images and audio of elders and young alike. For they all have in them their own distinct and important knowledge, ideals and perspectives for me to capture in the form of video and audio data, so that the information can documented and passed on to the future generations of Indigenous and non-indigenous peoples.

If you should have any questions or suggestions for me, please feel free to contact me. If anyone would like to be instrumental in the promotion, preservation and revitalization of our cultures, teachings, stories and/or languages, I would be happy to film or record anyone doing traditional cultural activities or if anyone is willing and interested in doing an interview please contact me. Thank you for taking the time to visit our website.
